This was our PREFERRED PICK of the week and the Eagles justified our faith in them as Road Favorites, taking it to the Rams 37-20
The Eagles' formula is fairly obvious to us: fight to a close game in the first half, and then just crush their opponents in the second half.
This pattern continued, as the Eagles had a narrow six-point lead in the first half, but then cruised to a 37-20 victory(with six of those Rams' points in garbage time)
TITANS 32 TEXANS 27A great effort by the Titans on the road against their AFC division rival Houston Texans.
The Texans continue to be inconsistent, with a surprisingly poor defensive performance considering their statistics up to this point.
The Texans are all but certain to win the division but we don't anticipate a deep playoff run from this flawed team.
VIKINGS 30 BEARS 27Another tough, close game and another heartbreaking loss for the Bears. They will probably blame the coach for this, but it was not his fault
The Vikings impressed with their third straight road victory. While they have not been dominant, it is difficult to win three straight on the road.
The Vikings remain just one game behind the NFC-leading Lions, and have one more game with them to catch them for the NFC North title.
SEAHAWKS 16 CARDINALS 6We nominate the Cardinals for the "DUD" performance of the week. This team looked nothing like the team in the preceding three games, and it was likely the improved Seattle defense that made the difference.
The normally fast Cardinals seemed to be in slow-motion against the Seahawks all game, maybe it was the conditions, but they looked like their 2023 last-place team.
The Seahawks are now alone in first place in the NFC West, but like the NFC South this division is very weak this season
DOLPHINS 34 PATRIOTS 15The Tua and Mike McDaniel formula continues: Beat up on the average/below average teams at home
Tua looked great, along with Tyreek Hill and the other offensive weapons, as the FINS cruised to a 34-15 victory over the Pats.
Drake Maye continues to have his ups and downs as a rookie, but we still see the potential in his game.
PACKERS 38 49ERS 10What was supposed to be a marquee NFC playoff-caliber matchup devolved into a one-sided Packer domination as the Packers cruised 38-10
With the 49ers devastated by injuries to players such as Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa, this team looked nothing like the NFC champion from last season.
We had projected the 49ers would ultimately make the playoffs, but with each loss and each injury their odds keep getting worse. They still have time, but its running out quickly.
BROWNS 24 STEELERS 19First "Snow Game" in the NFL for 2024, and how fitting that it should be a tough AFC North matchup like we had with the Steelers and the Browns
The game was exceedingly dull until mid way in the second quarter with defense leading the way to a 10-3 Browns' halftime lead
The second half was far more interesting, as the game played in heavy snow featured a late game-winning TD drive by the hometeam Browns.
BETTING LESSON: STEELERS AT BROWNS
We picked the Browns to cover this one, and there were TWO huge factors why we liked Cleveland here, even though the Steelers are a better team.
1. DOUBLE TECHNICAL - This is a Spirit Sports term for a setup where one team is coming off a close win or a lucky win against a team coming off a loss
Watching the Steelers-Ravens game the previous week, clearly the Steelers got a lucky win, winning with turnovers and Justin Tucker missing two very makeable field goals
The Browns were crushed by the Saints on the road, which we feel serves as strong motivation for the following week.
2. HOME DIVISION UNDERDOG - In our book, LOVE YOUR UNDERDOGS, we stress the motivating factor of being a home underdog, especially against a division rival.
Teams play division rivals far tougher, and an underdog is far more likely to win against a divison opponent. We anticipated the Browns would play far better than they did against the Saints, a Non-division, non-Conference opponent.
